A short review of the Razer Kishi Mobile Controller

Mobile gaming can get quite intense. Often with RPG and combat games, it is a hassle to use only your thumbs for multiple controls, especially in fast-paced games like Fortnite, Oceanhorn, and my personal favorite, Genshin Impact. I mainly use my PC to run Genshin; However, it is not always convenient. I often forget to do my daily commissions or I leave my computer for some time. Thankfully, Genshin functions seamlessly cross-platforms so all I needed to do to solve the inconvenience was download Genshin to my iPhone. While this creates simple and convenient gaming, getting used to the slowdown of using two thumbs was not so easy. To try to find a solution to this, I searched the internet for a better way to the game. Not too far into my search, I came across this little gadget: The Razer Kishi Controller. I must say, this controller has become a must-have in a mobile gamer's bag.

What is the Razer Kishi?

The Razer Kishi is a compact controller that allows iPhone and Android phones to turn the tables of the mobile gaming experience through direct connections.

The Razer Kishi Build

With a sleek design and lightweight build, this controller is perfect for on-the-go gaming. The controller requires no charging or batteries while also allowing for passthrough charging to your device. With clickable analog thumbsticks and face buttons similar to the Xbox controllers, the Razer Kishi is easy to use and become familiar with. The controller is made with a flexible fix, coming with two sizes of rubber slide-in pieces to fit the top and bottom of the device with a snug fit. For longer phones, there is a stretchable support band within the retaining plate.

How to Use Your Razer Kishi

The setup for this controller is ridiculously simple. To free the Razer Kishi, all you need to do is push both releases latches outwards and allow the retaining plate to drop out. Now that the controller is loose, the phone in use plugs into the charging port, and the other end slides right into position on the top of the phone. From there, you may need to download the Razer Kishi App but I personally have not found a use for it. I solely use my Razer Kishi for Genshin Impact mobile play and have yet to have any issues.

To connect the remote to the Genshin app, you need to open the app and enter the settings from Paimon's menu. From there, select the controls tap and switch the Control Type from Touch Screen to Controller. This option will only display when the device is connected to the controller.

The default controls in Genshin confused me quite a bit so I continued in the same settings and reassigned the control keys for each action according to my personal preference. This process was straightforward and took less than five minutes.

Final Takeaways: ★★★★ 4/5

While being one of my absolute favorite purchases, like every product on the market there are a few drawbacks. I found these negatives to be mildly inconvenient rather than complete deal-breakers. For my use, this controller served well. As a less involved "gamer," this accessory was enjoyable and a great addition. However, I know this may not be true for everyone so it is important to acknowledge both the pros and cons of a new product.

Pros
- Easy to use with simple set up
- No batteries or charging required
- Low latency
- Does not increase battery usage
- Portable and lightweight
- Fits a range of phones
Cons
- Considerably expensive
- Low latency unfortunately doesn't mean no latency
- Face buttons have a mushy feeling
- Does not support wired headphones
- Does not support other devices through Bluetooth (tablets, laptops, etc.)
